🚂 By Train (Recommended)
The most comfortable option for the long journey. Multiple direct trains connect Nagpur and Warangal.
Key trains:
- Dakshin Express (11013/11014) — Nagpur to Warangal, ~7 hrs
- GT Express (12616) — via Balharshah, ~8 hrs
- Nagpur–Hyderabad trains stopping at Kazipet Junction
Station: Alight at Warangal Junction (WL) or Kazipet Junction (KZJ) — both have good bus connectivity to Medaram.
From Warangal: TSRTC Jatara special buses to Medaram (90 km, ~2.5 hrs, ₹80–120).
Tip: Book Sleeper/3AC tickets 2–3 months in advance. Tatkal quota opens 1 day before at 10 AM.
🚗 By Car / Cab
Good option for groups of 3–4. Break the journey at Warangal.
Route: Nagpur → Adilabad → Nirmal → Mancherial → Karimnagar Bypass → Warangal → Mulugu → Medaram
Highways: NH44 (Nagpur to Mancherial) + NH163 (to Warangal) + State road to Medaram
Road condition: NH44 is excellent 4-lane highway. NH163 is good 2-lane. Forest road after Mulugu is narrow single-lane.
Fuel: Plenty of fuel stations on NH44. Last reliable pump at Mulugu before the forest stretch.
Tolls: 3–4 toll plazas, total ~₹400–500
🚌 By Bus
No direct bus from Nagpur to Medaram. You'll need to change at Warangal or Hyderabad.
Option 1: MSRTC / private bus Nagpur → Warangal (overnight, ~8 hrs), then TSRTC to Medaram.
Option 2: Nagpur → Hyderabad (overnight sleeper bus, ~10 hrs), then Hyderabad → Medaram special bus.
Private operators: Orange Travels, VRL, SRS — check for Nagpur–Warangal services during Jatara season.
✈️ By Flight (via Hyderabad)
Route: Fly Nagpur → Hyderabad (1 hr, multiple daily flights), then car/bus to Medaram (260 km, ~3.5 hrs).
Best for: Pilgrims short on time. Total travel ~5–6 hours including airport transit.
Cost: Flight ₹3,000–8,000 + cab ₹3,000–5,000
🏨 Where to Stay
Warangal (recommended base)
Best option — stay overnight before the Jatara. Hotels near bus/railway station. Haritha Hotel, Hotel Ratna, Hotel Ashoka.
Adilabad (halfway stop)
If driving, break journey here. Basic hotels near bus stand. Good for a meal stop and rest before continuing.
Hyderabad (if flying)
If flying in, stay near Secunderabad station or MGBS to catch early morning bus/cab to Medaram next day.
- Maharashtra pilgrims often travel in large groups by chartered bus — check with local temples and community groups for organized trips.
- Marathi-speaking volunteers are present at Medaram during Jatara to assist Marathi pilgrims with directions and rituals.
- Carry jaggery (गूळ/bellam) from home for the Bangaram offering — it's cheaper and better quality than what's sold near the venue.
- The Jatara has a strong following in Vidarbha region — coordinate with Nagpur, Chandrapur, and Gadchiroli devotee groups.
- The Koya and Gond tribes of eastern Maharashtra share cultural ties with the Medaram Koyas — the Jatara resonates deeply with Vidarbha's tribal communities.
📍 Suggested Itinerary (3 Days)
Day 1: Nagpur → Warangal (train overnight or drive 6 hrs). Check into hotel. Visit Warangal Fort & Thousand Pillar Temple.
Day 2: Early morning bus/cab to Medaram. Attend Jatara. Return to Warangal by evening.
Day 3: Visit Ramappa Temple (UNESCO) en route back, or take train/drive back to Nagpur.
