🚌 By Bus (Most Popular)
TSRTC operates hundreds of special Jatara buses from MGBS (Imlibun) and JBS (Jubilee) bus stations to Medaram during the festival. Buses run round-the-clock during peak days (Day 2–3).
Boarding points: MGBS (Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station), JBS (Jubilee Bus Station), Uppal X Roads, LB Nagar
Bus types: Express, Deluxe, Palle Velugu (ordinary). AC buses available on select services.
Frequency during Jatara: Every 5–10 minutes from MGBS
Non-Jatara season: Take a bus to Warangal (every 15 min, ₹200–350), then onward to Mulugu/Medaram (every hour, ₹80–120)
🚗 By Car / Cab
The fastest and most flexible option, especially for families and groups.
Recommended route: Hyderabad → Bhongir → Jangaon → Warangal Bypass → Mulugu → Tadvai → Medaram via NH163
Road condition: NH163 is well-maintained 4-lane highway until Warangal. Warangal to Mulugu is good 2-lane. Last 30 km (Mulugu–Medaram) is single-lane forest road with heavy traffic during Jatara.
Fuel stops: Last reliable petrol pump at Mulugu. Fill up here — no fuel stations in the forest stretch.
Tolls: 2 toll plazas en route (Bhongir and Jangaon), total ~₹200
🚂 By Train + Bus
Cost-effective option combining train comfort with a short bus ride.
Step 1: Train from Secunderabad/Kacheguda/Hyderabad to Warangal Junction (station code: WL). Multiple daily trains, 2–3 hours. Key trains: Golconda Express (7092), Hyderabad–Warangal Intercity.
Step 2: From Warangal bus stand (1 km from station), take TSRTC bus to Medaram (90 km, ~2 hrs, ₹80–120). Special buses during Jatara run directly from the railway station.
Tip: Book train tickets 2–3 months in advance — Jatara season trains sell out quickly.
🏨 Where to Stay
Warangal (~90 km)
Best range of hotels — budget to mid-range. Haritha Hotel (TSTDC), Hotel Ashoka, Hotel Ratna. Easiest to find availability.
Mulugu (~30 km)
Closer to Medaram but very limited options. Haritha Resort (government), a few private lodges. Book months ahead for Jatara.
Medaram (at site)
Government temporary shelters and tent camps during Jatara. Basic facilities — bring sleeping bags and mats. No permanent hotels.
🅿️ Parking at Medaram
During Jatara, vehicles are stopped 5–8 km before Medaram at designated parking zones set up by the district administration. Free shuttle buses ferry pilgrims from parking to the Jatara site. Private vehicles are not allowed beyond the parking zones.
Parking fee: ₹50–100 for cars, ₹200 for buses
Tip: Arrive before 6 AM to get parking closer to the shuttle point. Later arrivals may have to walk 2–3 km from remote parking.
- Start from Hyderabad by 2–3 AM to reach Medaram by dawn and avoid the worst crowd congestion.
- Return traffic peaks on Day 3 evening — if possible, leave early morning on Day 4 instead.
- Carry sufficient water and snacks for the last 30 km forest stretch — no shops or restaurants.
- During Jatara, TSRTC special buses are the stress-free option — no parking hassle, no forest road navigation.
- Keep cash handy — UPI/card coverage is unreliable near Medaram.
